SSB’s Görgün Hosts Qatar’s Sheikh Saoud Al Thani After Bedir Defence Industry MoU

Türkiye’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün met Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani and his delegation at SSB headquarters. The visit follows the Bedir Defence Industry Memorandum of Understanding signed by Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia, and focuses on deepening industrial partnership rather than announcing a new weapons package.
According to the SSB press bulletin, the sides discussed deepening the defence-industry partnership, developing joint projects, and strengthening technology and production capabilities. No project names, budgets or timelines were disclosed.
Follow-up to the four-nation Bedir MoU
SSB frames the meeting as a continuation of the common intent set out in the Bedir MoU — also reported as the Badr defence-industry MoU when it was signed in Doha on 21 October 2026. That framework covers technology development, research and development, technical cooperation and new projects among the four signatories. It is an industrial arrangement, not a mutual-defence pact, and no specific programme of record was attached to the original signing.
Bilateral Türkiye–Qatar talks under that umbrella are intended to push joint work further; SSB did not list which programmes were on the table in this meeting.
What Görgün said
Görgün described the visit as carrying forward the shared will expressed in the MoU:
“This visit, which continues the common will we set out with the agreement, is important for the steps we will take together in the period ahead. Through joint projects, we aim to strengthen our countries’ technology and production capabilities and to deepen our defence-industry partnership.”
He thanked Sheikh Saoud Al Thani and the accompanying delegation for the visit and for their contribution to defence-industry cooperation.
