Iran Says Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish Security Chiefs to Meet Officials in Tehran
Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, the three signatories of the Mecca joint defence agreement, are due to meet Iranian officials in Tehran, according to a senior Iranian security official and sources cited by Reuters. Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), told Mehr News Agency on Monday 26 October 2026 that Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın would travel to Tehran.
What has been said
According to Mehr, Bagheri Kani said Munir had announced the decision during a meeting with SNSC Secretary Mohsen Rezaei. Two sources told Reuters, in a report carried by Al-Monitor, that the meeting would take place on Monday to discuss regional coordination; one of them named the Turkish intelligence chief as a participant. Reuters said the Saudi government media office, Pakistan’s military media wing (ISPR) and the Turkish Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. None of the three governments had publicly confirmed the visit at the time of writing.
Reuters described the meeting as the first high-level contact between Iran and all three members of the pact since Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia escalated. Munir visited Tehran last week, the agency said.
Why it matters
The talks would come as Houthi attacks on Saudi territory continue. Overnight, the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted a ballistic missile fired at Riyadh and destroyed missile tunnels and launchers in Yemen, while the Houthis claim further strikes on Saudi airports and bases. Signatories to the Mecca joint defence agreement, signed in August, agreed at an emergency meeting in Riyadh to ensure the “rapid deployment” of military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia, according to Reuters; we covered the activation of the alliance and Saudi deployment earlier this month. Pakistan approved the agreement last week.
Turkish ratification
In Türkiye, the bill to approve the agreement is before parliament. The Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee is scheduled to take it up on Tuesday 27 October at 11:00, Anadolu Agency reported. The parliamentary record for the bill (2/3961) lists its status as “in committee”. Turkish media have said a General Assembly vote could follow in the first week of November.
Classification: CONFIRMED (Iranian official statement and two sources cited by Reuters); the visit has not been confirmed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or Türkiye. DefenceMENA will update this report.
