The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) took delivery of 45 military-pattern utility vehicles on Friday 16 October 2026 under the government’s retooling programme, the GAF Department of Public Relations said. The batch is made up of 15 KIA utility vehicles, 15 four-by-four vehicles and 15 six-by-six troop-carrying vehicles.

What the armed forces announced

In a statement on its website and a post on its official X account, the GAF said the vehicles were intended to improve troop transport, make it easier to move across difficult terrain and help the Army respond quickly to operational demands. It described the purchase as part of the government’s wider effort to modernise the armed forces and protect Ghana’s territorial integrity.

The statement did not give the manufacturers or models of the four-by-four and six-by-six vehicles, the supplier, the contract value or how the purchase was funded. It also did not say which units will receive the vehicles. KIA is the South Korean vehicle maker; the GAF did not name the KIA model. This is a delivery to the armed forces; the GAF has not said when the vehicles will be issued to units.

Part of a wider re-equipment drive

The GAF linked the delivery to two earlier acquisitions this year. The Ghana Navy commissioned the vessel GNS PRU on 10 February 2026, and the Ghana Air Force received an Airbus H175 helicopter from France on 5 March 2026. The H175 is the first of four Airbus helicopters, three H175s and one H160, approved by Ghana’s parliament in December 2025 alongside a Dassault Falcon 6X jet; DefenceMENA tracks that programme here.
